Over 200 New Americans are served through our Family Mentors and Adult Literacy Program every year with our approximately 100 volunteers. Our volunteers total many hours of service—over 4,000 hours--mentoring and tutoring. This great accomplishment is not possible without financial, volunteer, and in-kind support.
Since 2009 Grand Forks has become the home to approximately 100 newly resettled refugees who are looking to build a new life here and become a part of the Greater Grand Forks community. They are joined by many secondary refugees. Secondary refugees tell us that they are choosing Grand Forks because they have heard that it is a safe place to live, their children can get a good education, and they are able to find jobs. Global Friends needs to continue building friendships.
One of our volunteers recently said, “Being a part of Global Friends has changed my life. This experience makes me want to be a better person and I feel more compassionate towards refugees because I now understand their story.”
We are so excited to be part of a thriving, diverse community. We are receiving more local support than ever before and this is what we need to continue our work. Help us support New Americans in our community with a contribution! Small or large—every gift helps. Many of our grantors look to see how many individuals contributions are being given, so we need everyone’s help.
